The National capital has reportedly experienced a spike in air pollution levels after the festival of Diwali. Though bursting of crackers was not advised given the quality of air, many people reportedly still celebrated the festival of Diwali with crackers and fireworks which resulted in poorer air and an increase in air pollution. As per reports, areas like RK Puram, Patparganj and Ashok Vihar took a bad hit with the air quality dropping down to the severe category. The pollution meter reportedly touched the 999 mark, which is the maximum reading possible on the meter. With the increase in thick and toxic smog, it is important for the people of Delhi to protect themselves from the pollution.

Air pollution masks

Air pollution masks can prove to be a great option for people to lessen the impact of the toxic air. Maintaining air quality indoors is a doable task, as it is a controlled environment. But when it comes to outdoors, protecting yourself from the harmful air is a critical need as it can spoil your health and cause long-term diseases. N95 is a type of mask which can prove to be the best for the environment in Delhi. As per reports, Chief Minister of Delhi has announced that N95 masks will be distributed in schools for students as they are the need of the day. The N95 masks are available to buy at many medical and general stores in Delhi. Apart from this, various online shopping portals also sell the N95 type of masks. On average, a pack of 20 disposable masks will cost you around 350-400 rupees.

The N95 type of masks is designed specifically to protect people from harmful pollutants in the air. The respirators present in the mask filter almost 95 per cent of the air transmitted toxins. A harmful particulate named PM2.5 is reportedly present in the polluted air of Delhi. PM2.5, when inhaled, can settle in lungs, nose and the circulatory system. The pollutant can also cause the arteries to harden when exposed to it over a long time. Usage of masks to travel in outdoor environments in Delhi is highly recommended by various health activists around the capital.
