Kidney is perhaps one of the most crucial part of your body. It plays a primary role at regulating the water quotient in your body, which in turn, ensures that you function smoothly. Another important job that kidneys perform is the removal of waste products and help balance the body’s minerals. It is also in charge of producing hormones that circulate in the bloodstream like “messengers” and regulate blood pressure. Therefore, it is essential for one to protect their kidneys at any cost.

Following given are the seven golden rules when it comes to protecting your kidneys:

Control your blood pressure

Experts suggest that it is important for one to control their blood pressure to 120/80. Simply buy your own blood pressure instrument and measure your BP at home in order to keep a check.

Another important thing to keep in mind is to ensure that your blood pressure is kept in check. Keep it sustained to 120/80, while fasting it can be below 110 and post lunch it can be limited to somewhere below 140. You can buy your own Glucometer and monitor sugar at home.

Stick to your ideal body weight

Bring your weight down to the ideal body weight with healthy diet and regular exercise. You can even buy a weight machine to ensure that this takes place smoothly.

Get yourself treated

In case you are suffering with stone disease or urinary infection, then you can get yourself treated promptly and adequately.

Quit smoking/alcohol consumption

You won’t believe the kind of benefits you will avail if you just quit smoking and consumption of alcohol.

Join the SOS campaign

Say goodbye to your kidney problems is as easy as joining the SOS campaign (Salt, Oil and Sugar). You can reduce all of them by over thirty per cent by limiting to:

  • Salt consumption  – 1 tsp per day
  • Oil consumption -  3 tsp per day & even less if Obese
  • Sugar consumption – 6 tsp if not diabetic & no sugar if diabetic.

Regular Exercise

30 minutes of moderate exercise per day will help you stay fit, and keeps your kidneys healthy.

Regular Tests
