Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines which originated in ancient India. The International Day of Yoga is celebrated annually on 21 June since 2015. It was declared unanimously by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The concept of International Day of Yoga was first proposed by the current Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi during his speech at the UNGA, on 27 September 2014. 

As the International Day of Yoga is around the corner, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday shared an animated video on the importance of meditation(Dhyana) in Yoga.

Sporting a blue T-shirt and track pants in a 3D video, Prime Minister Modi's animated version can be seen meditating (doing Dhyana) while a voice-over talks about the various benefits of Meditation. 

Some of the benefits of meditation are as follows:

  • It rejuvenates the body and mind
  • It helps to improve concentration and aids behavioral modification
  • It keeps one away from negative emotion
  • It reduces anger, fear, anxiety and depression
  • It increases concentration, willpower and clarity of thought
  • It makes one more positive and productive
  • It improves the quality of life

Meditation or Dhyana is an integral part of Yoga. It is the process by which an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness, or focusing their mind on a particular object, thought or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state.
