What do the official numbers reveal for Dharamshala?

In 2021, only 2,700 foreign tourists visited the area, a figure that rose significantly to 6,500 in 2022. The momentum continued into 2023, when 16,222 international tourists made their way to Dharamshala. As of August 2024, the numbers are promising, with 16,474 visitors already recorded. Dhiman anticipates a further 25 per cent increase by the end of the year, buoyed by upcoming events like the Paragliding World Cup.

Dharamshala’s appeal is multifaceted. Many travelers are drawn by the teachings of the Dalai Lama, who resides in the area, while others seek rejuvenation at local yoga and wellness centers. Adventure seekers flock to the region for paragliding, trekking, and cricket, all set against the backdrop of stunning Himalayan landscapes.

As tourism rebounds, local businesses are optimistic about the future. With several months left in the year and various events scheduled, Dharamshala is set to welcome an even greater influx of globetrotters eager to experience its unique offerings. The region stands ready to reclaim its place as a top destination in the Indian Himalayas.
