Situated in the eastern Himalayas Bhutan is a small country both geographically and population-wise. A trek to Bhutan is always accompanied by a guide, cook, camping assistant. Bhutan offers variety in terms of trekking. There are challenging as well as simple treks. Here’s a look at five of the greatest treks in Bhutan:

The Jhomolhari Trek

Jhomolhari trek in Bhutan that can go up to eight days has a magnificent view. The route of the trek is moderately challenging which crosses Bhonte La pass 4,890m i.e. 16000 feet & Mt. Jomolhari 7,326m (24000 feet). The route of the trek straddles between the borders of Bhutan and Nepal. Druk Path Trek

Druk Path Trek in the mountains of Bhutan continues for 6 days. Druk Trek is one of the very challenging treks in Bhutan. It starts from Paro and goes over the mountains called Thimpu. Thimpu is the highest mountain in Bhutan and it is the only mountain in the world on which no one yet able to reach its summit. The route on the Druk Path Trek crossed the alpine forest.

Snowman Trek

One of the best views of the Himalayas can be seen while on this trek. It is one of the longest treks of 25 days but this may vary depending upon the start point of the trek. It crosses 11 passes the tallest of them being Gangla Karchung La at 5230m, Jaze La, 5251m, Loju La, 5155m and Rinchenzoe La, 5332m. It is also one of the few places you are on your own for an extended duration while trekking in the Himalayas. The best time for this kind of a trek is during October before the snows come because during this period of the year the weather is good and snows high passes and just after the monsoon ends the season the is perfect for this trek.

Duer Hot Springs Trek

Duer Hot Springs trek is a nine days trek and it counts under another one of the challenging trekking routes. It has the path from snowman trek as well. The highlights of the trek- Duer Hotsprings is one of the most pristine and beautiful in all the Himalayas. While on the trek you may have the chance to see wildlife including Musk, Deer and Black Beer.

Bumthang Owl Trek

Bumthang owl trek is a three days trek which starts from Dhur village. The second day brings you to Drangela Pass 3600m and Coming down from the pass you will be able to see Chuedak monastery which features over 100 stoned carvings of Avalokiteśvara one of the most honoured bodhisattvas. The forests on its way are largely of bamboo and variety of Rhododendrons that can be seen flowering during April and May. Also the excellent bird watching and wildlife like Black Beer.
