Bhutan is a proud country boasting of its incredible philosophy of Gross National Happiness. This spiritual land is no ordinary place. The country is the perfect blend of modern developments while locals are skilfully preserving its old and valuable traditions. Nestled amidst pristine snow-capped Himalayas, this country is the home to gorgeous ancient villages and lush green forests. 1. Trashiyangtse

If you are fond of nature, pay a visit to Trashiyangtse. Situated amidst a tiny river valley, this mesmerising place is perfect for long strolls in the countryside. You can also explore stupas there, including Chorten Kora, which is located nearby Kulong Chu River. Nestled in nature’s lap, Trashiyangtse is also amazingly the starting point for hikes to reserves, monasteries and paper workshops. To increase your love for birds, Bomdeling Wildlife Sanctuary is at a stone’s throw from this place. It is home to Black-necked Cranes that migrate in winters between November to February from Tibet.

2. Punakha and Semtokha Dzongs

Bhutanese are known for their art which is also a major part of their culture. Based on religion, their art forms focuses on a certain pattern and style. Following traditions and values, these forms do not welcome innovation. If you are artistically inclined, pay a visit to various dzongs of the country including Semtokha and Punakha Dzong. These places are a treat to the art lovers.

3. Cafe culture

Situated in nature’s lap, Bhutan offers an array of delicacies in small cosy restaurants and cafes. They have vivid options for non-vegetarians as well as vegetarians. Datshi, the staple food of Bhutan, is a must-try there. This dish is made in various forms, amongst which the most loved is Ema Datshi. This scrumptious dish is cooked using cheese, vegetables, pepper and most importantly chilli. Visit Ambient Café and Galingkha, among others for mouth-watering food.

4. Norzin Lam

With grand hotels, crowded cafes, stalls and stores, Norzin Lam will give you everything you ever want. One of the best destinations for shopping offers you everything between handmade paper, crafted jewellery to artistic boots. If you are a shopaholic, choose incredible bamboo stuff, bright masks, carpets and wooden items. This market is perfect for those who love to indulge in a country’s culture.
