An eco-friendly journey's virtues cannot be underestimated as there are several factors associated with travel that can prove disastrous for the planet. This is not to say that a traveller should avoid travelling, but a traveller should be conscious and thoughtful of his/her environment and nature as he plans his next adventure. This helps conserve the environment and also benefits the communities visited.

Some environment-friendly tips for every traveller:

Do not bag items

The plastic bags that are used in everyday life takes well over thousand years to decompose. People mostly tend to use plastic bags to pack as much possible before they head out for their next big trip. But one definitely would not want their vacation memories to last so long as a thousand years. Instead, a re-useable shopping bag can be used for packing all your items if you need them.

Avoid disposable plastic bottles on a trip

Apart from bags, people also rely on plastic water bottles while they travel. Be it buying from a local store or carrying from home, these bottles can have an adverse effect on the health as plastic contains certain chemicals that seeps into the water with time and causes health issues, especially among children. It is therefore recommended to carry reusable bottles which include stainless steel, ceramic, glass, and plant-based plastics.

Do not carry meat products

While travelling, eat as few animal products as possible. The meat industry is considered one of the world’s major polluters with experts claiming that giving up the consumption of animal products, especially beef, might reduce the carbon footprint more than vehicles.

Public transport

It is okay to use private vehicles but do not use them extensively. One can walk, bike, or use public transport to go almost anywhere. This will not only reduce emission and congestion but also save money.

Conserving water

Wasting water is a bigger problem than people think. While some may feel that water magically appears out of the tap, there are communities who consider water to be precious due to its scarce availability in their areas, hence overusing would only limit the availability for others. This goes for both drinking and other purposes, including a shower.
