Why The Karnataka Bypoll Results Are No More Than The Status Quo

The Karnataka by-poll results are out.

For me, it is nothing more than the status quo. Mandya is the region where JD(S) has historically dominated.

In the assembly elections, JD(S) has swept that region completely and it is but natural for JD(S) candidates to win, particularly when Kumaraswamy's wife was also fighting.

In Shimoga, where B.S. Yeddyurappa is dominant, it was Yeddyurappa's son that was fighting so it is but natural for him to win.

In Ballari, a huge hue and cry has been made, but in the assembly elections the Congress had won 6 out of 8 seats. It is natural for Congress here to win the LS seats, particularly when Sriramulu was not fighting.

That's my take -- status quo, Karnataka by-poll results.

Pradeep Bhandari is the founder of Jan Ki Baat, which accurately projected the results of the 2018 Karnataka Assembly elections. The bypoll results in Karnataka on Tuesday saw the JD(S)-Congress alliance winning two Parliamentary seats and two assembly seats, while the BJP managed to win one Lok Sabha seat, in Shivamogga.
