The Indian Men's Badminton Team etched its name in the history books by winning the Thomas Cup final on Sunday. India beat 14-time champions Indonesia 3-0 to win their maiden Thomas Cup title in Bangkok, Thailand. India's star performer Kidambi Srikanth, who played a critical role in his team's successful campaign, spoke to Republic TV about the historic victory and how they motivated each other to win the cup. Srikanth also talked about the excitement amongst the younger members of the team.

Srikanth said the environment in the team was really good and that every member of the squad was supportive of each other. He said the younger members were really excited and had to be calmed down before the match. Srikanth further revealed that every member of the team knew they were capable of winning, adding that it was all about being consistent. Srikanth said India had achieved some significant wins in the past but it was never as a team. The 29-year-old said they told each other before the tournament that they have to win for the nation, adding "everyone did really well".

"All of them were really excited, they really wanted to do well and we just had to calm them down then just say that it's just about that one hour we get to play on the court is what is really important. We can really play well and execute the plans well in that one hour. Going into the tournament we all knew that we are capable but it's more about being consistent, it's more about winning that match we play. Even in the past, sometimes we won singles, sometimes we won doubles but it was never together as a team. This time we told each other that we have to do it for the nation and I think that everyone did really well," Srikanth said.
