PV Sindhu settles for silver at the BWF World Championships 2018

PV Sindhu hopes of winning her first World Championships gold medal faced a familiar roadblock after going doing to Spain's Carolina Marin in the summit clash of the BWF World Championships 2018 in China.

En route to the final, PV Sindhu enjoyed a great run as she caused a major upset of the tournament by avenging her revenge over the defending champion in the quarterfinals, in what was rematch of last year's summit clash.

Ahead of this year's final, Sindhu and Marin’s head-to-head record was currently tied at 6-6 with the Indian holding the edge in recent encounters. However, after her recent triumph the Spaniard seems to enjoy a better measure over her arch-rival.

PV Sindhu's could not build on her brilliant form as she failed to hold her nerves in both games with her Spanish counterpart stamping her authority right from the start. The Indian was seen starring down the barrel for the second time in the final, as she suffered a disappointing 21-19, 21-10 loss at the hands of Carolina Marin. 

In the first game, Marin made an aggressive start by taking three early points but Sindhu did well to take a 11-8 lead at the interval. The Rio Olympic medalist forced errors on Sindhu and clawed herself brilliantly to take the first game 21-19.

The second game was rather a one-sided affair with Sindhu looking clueless and Marin completely dominating proceedings right from the start. At the interval, Sindhu was seen trailing at 11-2, and from that stage onwards it looked difficult for the Indian to make a comeback.

Marin continued to extend her lead and raced towards her third World Championships title after outclassing Sindhu in straight sets in 45 minutes. The Spaniard also becomes the first-ever women’s badminton player to win three World Championship gold medals and it also is Sindhu’s second straight silver in as many years.

After facing heartbreak in the summit clash for the second time, the Indian ace might have earned herself the the chokers tag after enduring losses in the in the Thailand Open, Hong Kong Open, Dubai Super Series Final, and the most recent being the BWF World Championships 2018.

However, India's star shuttler will be looking to put her recent losses behind her and aim for a fresh start at the upcoming Asian games to be held in Indonesia next month.
