Former NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s 29-year-old son Adam Abdul-Jabbar has been sentenced to six months in jail for stabbing his neighbour with a hunting knife, following an argument over trash cans back in June 2020. Abdul-Jabbar and his San Clemente neighbour share a driveway, where the latter stabbed his 60-year old neighbour in the back of the head last year for failing to take in the trash cans for his elder roommate. As per the Orange Couty district attorney’s office, Adam pleaded guilty to three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, including one count of carrying a firk or dagger with him along with enhancements for inflicting bodily injury.

As per Associated Press, he has now been sentenced to six months in jail and has accepted a plea deal from an Orange County judge which sentenced his stay until January seven. The plea deal allows Abdul-Jabbar to apply for home confinements in place of incarceration. The 29-year-old will now serve a sentence for stabbing his neighbour in the back of the head, who suffered a fractured skull and made back his way to life after collapsing outside of the emergency room.

Prosecutors object to the plea offer

As mentioned in a report by AP, in a statement after the sentencing,  District Attorney Todd Spitzer said, “This slap on the wrist is an absolute miscarriage of justice. This man nearly bled to death in front of the emergency room doors after being stabbed so violently over and over that his skull was fractured. We believe the complete disregard for human life over a dispute over trashcans is so egregious it warranted prison time. Meanwhile, Adam’s family and father Kareem are yet to speak about the matter.  The probation officers will now decide if he will be permitted home confinement. Meanwhile, the Prosecution had sought a seven-year jail sentence for Adam and have objected to the plea offer.

Following the incident in June 2020, Adam was arrested and was later released after posting a USD 25,000. He has previously appeared on TV many times along with his father, the NBA legend. His most notable appearance on TV was on the Celebrity Family Feud show with his father.
