Afghanistan Cricket Board Appoints Rashid Khan As The Captain Across All Three Formats, Asghar Afghan Named Vice-captain

 Young all-rounder Rashid Khan has been appointed as the captain of Afghanistan Cricket Team across all three formats of the game by the Afghanistan Cricket  Board. Meanwhile, Asghar Afghan will be his deputy i.e. vice-captain. This has happened after Afghanistan's lacklustre run in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 under Gulbadin Naib where they failed to win even a single game and finished at the bottom of the points table.

The appointment of Rashid Khan as Afghanistan's new captain was officially confirmed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on their official Twitter handle.

The 20-year-old was earlier Afghanistan's T20 skipper, Rahmat Shah was the Test captain while Asghar Afghan while Asghar Afghan led them from the front in One Day Internationals.

Even though they could not manage a single win in the quadrennial event but they kept the likes of Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan on their toes before snatching defeat from the jaws of defeat.

Rashid has represented Afghanistan in 68 ODI's and 38 T20I's. The Afghans have so far have only played two Tests after having received full-time Test status. They lost their maiden Test against India in 2018 while they managed to get the better of Ireland earlier this year. 

This was also Afghanistan's second appearance in the showpiece event. Their first appearance was in the 2015 edition where they were knocked out in the group stages but had registered a consolation win over Scotland. 

Even the netizens came forward to congratulate the young leg spinner for his new role.
