Meanwhile, the home series against the West Indies has proved to be quite fruitful for the Indian players with Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant surging upwards, while skipper Virat Kohli maintained his numero uno position in the latest ICC rankings.

It was a series where youngsters took center-stage and left their mark with great panache. It goes without saying that Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw were India's stand-out players. After a brilliant debut showing, Prithvi Shaw was rewarded with a gain of 13 slots after he entered the rankings in 73rd place after his debut. The talented young batsman now sits at 60th place. As for Risabh Pant, he would be deriving satisfaction from the rankings gain after failing to overcome the nerves of the nervous nineties twice during the Test series against West Indies.
