The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be announcing the 15-member India squad for the World Cup on Monday at their headquarters in Mumbai. However, explosive former Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag came up with his own squad two days before the big announcement was to be made.

He took to Twitter to and post his final World Cup squad which included seven players who had played in the 2015 showpiece event and eight replacements.

Sehwag has played in three World Cups (2003, 2007 and 2011). He was an integral part of the 2011 winning squad under MS Dhoni's leadership that lifted the World Cup for the second time after 28 years. Sehwag was also part of the Indian squad who had finished as the runners-up in 2003 under the Sourav Ganguly's captaincy. Viru also holds the joint highest individual score for India in World Cups along with the 1983 World Cup winning skipper Kapil Dev. Both had scored 175.

The selectors will have a hard time in picking the 15-member squad as there has been a cut-throat competition among all the players since the last couple of years.

With No.4 spot being India's biggest concern since the 2015 World Cup, Ambati Rayudu, Dinesh Karthik and Vijay Shankar will be vying fo the spot. However, since the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, 11 batsmen have been tried and tested but neither of them could succeed in consolidating the No.4 spot.

While most of the players in the current squad might be in the scheme of things, there may be a few surprises in the form of young players like Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer. India is one of the strongest contenders to stake their claim on the coveted trophy.

The 12th edition of the World Cup will be played in England & Wales, in the United Kingdom. The quadrennial event will commence from May 30 as England will lock horns against South Africa at the Oval. The final will be played on July 14 at the Lord's with a Reserve Day scheduled on July 15.

India will begin their World Cup campaign against South Africa on June 5 at Southampton.
