Indian batsman Ajinkya Rahane missed out on the World Cup but compensated for it by attending the iconic clash between tennis greats Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal at the Wimbledon tournament, he has revealed. The vice-skipper of the Test cricket side for India was expected to receive a call-up for the national side during the World Cup following injuries to Shikhar Dhawan and Vijay Shankar. However, the selectors chose youngster Rishab Pant and Mayank Agarwal as replacements for the injured, leaving Rahane behind. 

The 31-year-old batsman took to Twitter to express his excitement in watching the match between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal at the stadium as it happened. Read the tweet here:

Reactions of the fans of the batsman to his post varied from excitement to see him back in the national side to expressing their interest to have seen him feature in the World Cup squad. Here are some of the reactions:

Skipper Virat Kohli and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah are expected to be rested for the limited-overs leg comprising three T20s and as many ODIs before returning for the two-Test series starting August 22. The five-day matches will be part of the inaugural World Test Championship. Rahane will look to make a comeback to the national side for this tour.
