Arjun Tendulkar's teammate Pawan Shah hogs limelight with second highest score in Youth Tests

The two matches between Sri Lanka U-19 and India U-19 was headlined for the arrival of Arjun Tendulkar, son of Sachin Tendulkar, in the cricket arena. And in the series, all the attention was hogged by the 18-year-old that the other players were overshadowed.

While his performances have been mediocre, his teammates are showing the way forward. In the ongoinng second match, Pawan Shah scored 282 in the first innings to help India post 613 for 8 before declaring. He was duly supported by Atharwa Taide, who scored 177 in what was his second consecutive century score.

Shah registered the highest ever score by an Indian in a Youth Test. His knock was also the second highest individual score in this level. Clinton Peake of Australia, who scored 304 in 1995, holds the highest individual record.

The 18-year-old also became only the second Indian to score a double century in this level after Tanmay Srivastava, who had scored 220 against Pakistan in 2006.

In the very same innings, his teammate Arjun made 14 of 18 balls before getting run-out. At the time of writing, Sri Lanka were 140 for 4. Mohit Jangra had taken three wickets, whereas Siddharth Desai had taken the other wicket. Arjun failed to get a wicket to his name, conceding 27 runs in six overs.

In the first match, India won by an innings and 21 runs. The star of the match was Ayush Badoni, who scored 185 runs and took six wickets in the match. There were also meaningful contribution from Atharwa Taide, who scored a century, Harsh Tyagi, who took four wickets in the first innings and Mohit Jangra, who took a fifer in the second innings.

There was a lot of fuss regarding India U-19's match against Sri Lanka U-19. It wasn't so much about the fixture, but more about the arrival of Arjun Tendulkar in the cricketing arena. Ever since the day it was decided that he would join the cricketing world, comparisons started to get drawn between him and his father.

And on his U-19 debut, Arjun did no harm to his fledging career. In the final ball of his second over, the 18-year-old got his first ever wicket after Kamil Mishara was caught plumb in front.
