Bangladesh cricket strike: Ex-BCB chief accuses board of match fixing

The Bangladesh players who have gone on a boycott released a list of 11 demands on Monday for the BCB to fulfill, which has now been accused of corruption.

Bangladesh cricket is all over the news after some of its top international players decided to go on an indefinite strike on Monday. According to Bangladeshi media reports, the demands were read by Naeem Islam, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal with 50-plus cricketers behind them as their tour to India next month has come under serious doubt.

Bangladesh Cricket Strike: What have the players demanded 

The players who have gone on a boycott released a list of 11 demands on Monday, including a reversal of the Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) decision last month to abandon the Bangladesh Premier League's (BPL) franchise-based model.

To add more salt to the BCB's wounds, former BCB President Saber Hossain Chaudhary supported the players. He took to Twitter on Tuesday to make a damning accusation that match-fixing was widespread in the country and the BCB has got everything to do with it. Here is what the current Bangladeshi Member of Parliament (MP) tweeted.

Bangladesh Cricket strike: Shakib Al Hasan shares his thoughts 

On Monday, Bangladesh's Test and T20I captain Shakib Al Hasan raised concerns about corruption in domestic cricket while making the announcement of a players' strike to press for better pay and benefits which has put their tour of India next month in serious doubt.

While speaking to media, Shakib said that the sorry state of their first, second and third division cricket is known. The skipper also said that many times, players have come to know of the result of a match beforehand.

There is a huge demand by Bangladesh's international stars to pay them and the team's coaches in lieu with overseas teams. They have demanded a 50 percent pay hike for first-class players, the expansion of national pay contracts, increased match fees in domestic games and better benefits for support staff.
