Bangladesh emphatically beat West Indies at Taunton in World Cup 2019

Bangladesh scored an emphatic victory over West Indies as they beat the Caribbean side by seven wickets to clinch their second win in the World Cup. Shakib Al Hassan and Linton Das powered the team to reach the massive target of 322 set by the West Indies. 

Shakib made an unbeaten 124 of 99, comprising of 16 boundaries and was assisted by Linton Das who made 94 of 69 balls, including eight fours and four sixes, guiding Bangladesh to a massive victory over the Windies. The top order of Bangladesh batting line-up rattled the Caribbean bowlers as they finished the match at 41.3 overs, giving themselves a good boost in terms of the net run rate. 

Shakib has found himself to be in sublime form as he has managed to score five consecutive 50s in ODIs since May 2019. He, along with Linton Das, put up a 189-run stand in the fourth wicket partnership, as Bangladesh managed to chase down the highest total in Taunton, England.  Bangladesh has recorded their highest ever chase and equaled World Cup's second highest ever chase. Shakib was adjudged Man of the Match for his spectacular performance with the bat. He also picked up two wickets in eight overs conceding just 54 runs at an economy of 6.75.

West Indies managed to put a good show with the bat as Evin Lewis(70), Shai Hope(96), and Shimron Hetmeyer(50) managed to get them to 331. Yet, the bowlers failed to contain the Bangladeshi onslaught as they were overpowered towards the end, leaving the match with 8 overs to spare. All of their bowlers were smashed for around the park as the six-man bowling line-up did not see even a single bowler with an economy under 6. Shanon Gabriel conceded the most runs, giving away 78 runs in 8.3 overs at a dismal economy rate of 9.18. 

Bangladesh will next face Australia at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on June 20, a crucial contest for the Tigers as they have to win all of the remaining four matches in the group stage to proceed ahead. West Indies will clash with New Zealand at Old Trafford, Manchester on June 22. With just one victory in their bag, Windies will have to hope against hope to turn the tables to qualify for the next stage.
