BCCI President Sourav Ganguly talks about the ICC and cricket in India

Ganguly said it is a great feeling to head the country's cricket board and that it gives him an opportunity to do something at a time when the board needs it.

Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly will begin a new inning when he takes over as the President of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Speaking to the media after the appointment, Ganguly said that it was a great feeling to head the country's cricket board, and also gives him an opportunity to do something at a time when the board’s image has got hampered quite a lot.

BCCI President 2019: Sourav Ganguly to relinquish CAB post

Sourav Ganguly, who was elected unopposed, pipped Brijesh Patel to become the front-runner for the top job and will have to relinquish his current post as the president of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) to take up the job. He admitted that getting elected unopposed is a big responsibility.

The former skipper said that he is taking over the helm at a time when BCCI have not been in a great position for the last three years. Sourav Ganguly feels that this is a great opportunity for him to do something good.

Sourav Ganguly's take on BCCI and ICC

Speaking to the media, Ganguly said that BCCI is important to the ICC as it not only generates funds; which is one part but the popularity of the game matters. He also said that India has a huge role to play in ICC and that the board needs to be respected which at the moment is not happening.

The 47-year-old also said that his first priority in the short tenure would be to look after first-class cricketers and for that he plans to meet all the stakeholders in Indian cricket and wants to do what Committee of Administrators (CoA) didn't do for 33 months.

Earlier, the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai expressed his delight on former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly filing his nomination for the post of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president. Hailing both his cricketing as well as administrative experience, Rai termed it as an “excellent development”.
