After bringing pride to the nation over an almost two-decade-long career, 2011 World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh announced retirement from all forms of cricket on Monday. While the announcement triggered an outpouring of sadness from his many fans who had hoped for one last swansong, they nonetheless expressed gratitude for the memories and inspiration the cricketing hero has given them.
With his exceptional fielding abilities and bellicose batting style, the Chandigarh- born star set standards for many young cricketers and other sportsmen not just in India but also around the world. After his awe-inspiring comeback on the field after battling Cancer; Yuvi proved to all his critics that he has of nerves of steel.
Reacting on the retirement announcement, Yuvraj's former teammate and fellow World Cup 2011 hero Gautam Gambhir expressed his feelings and made three very big points submissions:
1. That Yuvraj Singh was the best white-ball cricketer India had
2. That the BCCI should retire his number 12 jersey as a mark of tribute
3. That he wished he could bat as well as Yuvraj
Yuvraj's idol and former teammate, Sachin Tendulkar also conveyed his feelings about Yuvraj's retirement announcement.
To this message Yuvi replied, "Thank you master ! Very lucky and blessed to play with you for so many years, and winning the World Cup for you as a unit was more satisfying then for ourselves! thank you for being there for me always."
