Virat Kohli is in the form of his life. It has almost become some kind of routine to see Virat Kohli break a record every time he steps on the field. During the recently concluded
ODI series against West Indies, he wrote history by hammering three consecutive ODI tons on a trot. Apart from his prolific showing with the bat, his leadership was another major talking point as he led India to their sixth consecutive series win at home and their eight against the West Indies.
His achievements saw him draw praises from the best in the cricketing fraternity, with some dubbing him as one of the greatest ever to have graced the gentleman's game. And the latest to join the bandwagon was West Indies batting maestro Brian Lara.
Brian Lara hailed the Indian run-machine for his consistency across all the formats of the game and seemed particularly impressed by his leadership skills. The 'Prince of Port Spain, as the West Indian is fondly called, opined that cricket might have finally got a leader.
"Whatever Kohli is doing today is phenomenal. The rate of scoring, his fitness, and the importance he gives to a lot of different things. It is great to see that the game has a leader at this moment," Lara told PTI during an interview.
Virat Kohli took the reigns from MS Dhoni in 2017, and has never looked back since then. The Indian skipper has been prolific to say the least, having scored 13 tons in 54 games as captain.
In Bengaluru to participate in the fourth edition of Krishnapatnam Port Golden Eagles Golf Championship, the former West Indies skipper spoke about his friendship with Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar and how they both didn't let the comparisons affect their game.
"If you talk about Sachin and me - you read a lot about it and you hear about the comparisons and it was not a significant thing (for us)," Lara said.
"I am sure Kohli also does not pay much attention to these things. I think everyone gets it wrong. Everyone grows up in a different era and you have to appreciate what anyone brings to the table," he added.
