MS Dhoni pulled off a spectacular one-handed catch behind the stumps to get rid of Carlos Brathwaite in the first ball of the 26th over. Facing an in-swing delivery off Jasprit Bumrah, Braithwaite edged the ball behind the stumps, which Dhoni caught on to with one hand after diving to his right.
In a similar fashion, Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed dove to his side to clinch a one-handed catch in the last ball of the eighth over to dismiss Ross Taylor, during the Pakistan versus New Zealand match on Wednesday.
Debates of who made the better catch has ensued on social media, getting fans of the rival nations charged up. While Dhoni was quick to pick himself up after completing the catch, Sarfaraz Ahmed took some time to recuperate before he stood up.
Netizens took to Twitter to voice their choice on whose catch was better. Read some of the mixed reactions below:
Both Sarfaraz and Dhoni have been showered with appreciation for the dives they put in to get rid of the batsmen. Sarfaraz Ahmed silenced critics who complained of lack of fitness as Pakistan went on to make a comeback after losing against arch-rivals India on June 16, to get two consecutive victories that saw their World Cup campaign being revived.
Dhoni, on the other hand, was subjected to age-related criticism after he struggled with the bat initially. The finisher proved his worth after finishing off the innings for Indi with his trademark six-off-the-last-ball. The dive and the catch further silenced the critics.
