Cheteshwar Pujara finally fought back his demons as he got some valuable runs for himself as well as for Team India in the second innings of the first Test against South Africa at Vizag on Saturday. Pujara had failed in the first innings as he could only manage a 17-ball 6. Not only did he fail in the first innings but he also had a forgettable Caribbean tour as well. In the second innings, Cheteshwar Pujara rediscovered his rhythm with an impressive 81 off 148 balls. He looked set for a big one but was trapped in front of the wicket by Vernon Philander. However, he had all the reasons to be delighted during the press conference which took place after the end of the day's play. He also hailed Rohit Sharma.

Pujara admires Rohit Sharma

Cheteshwar Pujara was involved in a 169-run stand with Rohit Sharma for the second wicket. He had joined Sharma when India had lost Mayank Agarwal early. Their partnership put India in a commanding position in the Test match.

"When I had gone to bat and when I saw Rohit playing his shots, I thought that we were scoring at a good pace. The only reason why I was able to take extra time while batting was because of the way Rohit was batting and playing his shots", said Pujara.

Pujara then added that the 'Hitman' had batted well in the first innings but the situation was a bit different in the second innings as the wicket was different.

"No other batsman could have played such shots on this wicket and that partnership between lunch and tea was very crucial."

The number three batsman in Test cricket also talked about his and Rohit's communication. He said that both of them have played a lot of cricket with each other which includes U-19 and India-A matches. Pujara then mentioned that their communication was really good and that he enjoyed watching Rohit bat from the non-striker's end.

'There is a lot to learn from Rohit'

Cheteshwar Pujara also said that Rohit Sharma has batted a lot in white-ball cricket and he is known for his shots and that the way he hits sixes is incredible.

"As a Test batsman who wants to improve his ODI and T20 cricket, obviously there is a lot to learn from him especially when it comes to hitting the ball out of the park which I obviously admire and I will obviously have a chat with him when I am playing the shorter format", he concluded.
