One might have heard stories of fierce battles between Sachin Tendulkar and Wasim Akram, who are considered two of the best cricketers to have graced the game. While the mutual respect these two cricketer's share for each other is a well-documented fact, but there was a point in their illustrious careers where one was mocked by the other.
Sachin Tendulkar is known for his humble and down to earth attitude, while letting his bat do that talking. An incredible testament to that fact is one moment in the Master Blasters' career where he was bullied at the tender age of 16 by Wasim Akram.
It was back in the year of 1989, when Sachin Tendulkar was making his first international bow for India against Pakistan. While Sachin was taking his first steps into becoming a cricketing great, Wasim Akram had already established himself as one of the fiercest bowlers of that time.
Pakistan was aware that Sachin was the immensely talented new kid on the block and wanted to give him a little taste of their medicine. On that day the batting maestro not only had to deal with the pressure of facing the relentless pace attack consisting of Imran Khan, Akram and Waqar Younis, but on his very first tour he also had to face the wrath of some sledging from the Pakistani bowlers.
Speaking at the Salaam Cricket 2018 event in Dubai, Akram revealed what he had said to Sachin Tendulkar as he walked out to bat. Akram said: "We had read about Sachin.... that there's a sensation coming.. a 16-year old. But when he came (out to bat), he looked 14 years old and I told him, "mummy se puchke aaya hai?" (Did you ask your mother before coming?).
The audience present at the event were left in splits after hearing this incident. There were several other moments like these that were discussed by the other 10 legends present at the Slam Cricket 2018 event - Sunil Gavaskar, Younis Khan, Misbah-ul-haq, Abdul Qadir, Harbhajan Singh, Mohammad Azharuddin, R Ashwin, Habibul Bashar, Muttiah Muralitharan and Madan Lal.
Harbhajan Singh also recalled an incident involving Akram. Bhajji remembered the time when he said sorry to the Pakistani bowler after hitting a four off his ball. "Wasim bhai was my hero and it was my third fourth Test match but playing against him was a huge thing, I was scared to bat against him. But somehow I touched my bat to his ball and it went for four. On his way back, he was like "teri..." and I was like... "Paaji, galti ho gai."
