England have achieved something which has only happened once in the cricket history. After winning the fifth ODI by one wicket, they have whitewashed Australia 5-0 in the five-match ODI series.

This is only the second time in their entire history that Australia have been whitewashed in a five-ODI series. The last time it happened was when Steven Smith-led Australia lost all their five ODIs against South Africa at their home in 2016.

It is a major embarrassment for the Australian cricket, and adds on to the number of unwanted records they have achieved in the recently concluded ODI series against England. In the final match, the visitors were bowled out for 205 batting first.

It seemed the Aussies will salvage a win from the series, having restricted the hosts to 114 for 8. But Jos Buttler had other ideas. He slammed an unbeaten century, and with support from Adil Rashid (20), won the match for his side.

June 19, 2018 became the 'dark day' in Australian cricket, and the 'golden day' for England. The third ODI of the five-match series between the two teams took place on this day, and the hosts England annihilated their arch rivals.

Batting first, the hosts put up a record 481 for 6 in their 50 overs. This was the highest score in the history of Men's ODI cricket, surpassing the 444, which was scored by England themselves against Pakistan in 2016.

This was the worst ever defeat for Australia in their ODI history. And another embarrassing record followed. Australia, for the first time in their illustrious history, had lost four back to back bilateral series.

All of this comes after the 'ball tampering' saga which took place in February. Australia headed for the English tour with a new looking side. Without Steven Smith and David Warner, banned for their role in 'ball tampering', Tim Paine was appointed the skipper in the ODI format.

Also, following the embarrassment suffered in South Africa, Darren Lehmann stepped down as the head coach, and Justin Langer was given the responsibility to change the squad.
