England names Sam Billings as T20I vice-captain for New Zealand tour

English cricketer Sam Billings made his last T20I appearance in March and missed the chance to make it to the England World Cup owing to a shoulder injury

England has named Sam Billings as skipper Eoin Morgan's deputy for England's T20 series in New Zealand. The 28-year-old Kent player made his last T20 appearance in March. He missed the chance to make it to the England World Cup squad after suffering a shoulder injury in a Royal London One-Day game against Glamorgan.

Sam Billings thought on his appointment 

Billings has previously led County Side Kent and England Lions. Speaking about the appointment, Billings said it's a huge honor and a great opportunity to be recognised as a developing leader.

He also said that Morgan had given him a call a couple of weeks ago and said he would love him to do the duties. The wicketkeeper-batsman also said that he is looking forward to learning from his skipper and implanting what he did at Kent.

Over the years, Billings has failed to nail down a spot with the England's cricket team. England has opted to field a young squad on the tour of New Zealand as they look to start afresh after a grueling home summer that included a World Cup and an Ashes campaign.

Billings said he is in the side as a batsman first and foremost and then as a keeper. He stressed the fact that his first role will be to perform consistently at the top level. The Kent skipper said that captaining the national side is an added bonus and one that he will really enjoy.
