England Test captain Joe Root looks to improve his T20I skills

England captain Joe Root is looking forward to strengthening his T20 game; Root is all set to lead England's Test side for the upcoming tour of New Zealand

England Test captain Joe Root is known for his batting skills in the longer formats of the game. Root has scored over 7,000 Test runs at an average of 47.91 and 5,856 ODI runs at a staggering average of 51.36. However, the right-handed batsman has not been able to replicate the same success in the shortest format of the game.

Joe Root looks to strengthen his T20 game

Joe Root was part of England’s 2019 World Cup-winning team at home. The 28-year old has played 32 T20I’s for England, in which he scored 893 at a decent average of 35.72. He was also England’s highest run-scorer in the 2016 ICC T20 World Cup in India where England were runners-up of the tournament. However, for England’s upcoming tour to New Zealand, Joe Root has been ignored yet again from the T20I squad.

According to an ICC report, Joe Root is aware of the competition within the T20 squad and hence, the cricketer wants to keep bettering his skills in the format. Root went on to add that he will make the most out of the limited opportunities he will get for the same. He mentioned that cricketers have to deal with the food chain sometimes and the rising competition within the squad will only raise the standard of English cricket in T20Is.

England tour of New Zealand 2019

The English cricket team is scheduled to tour New Zealand later this month for five T20I’s and a two-match Test series. The Test series will not form a part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship. The tour will open with a warm-up 20-over game against New Zealand XI and will conclude with a Test at Seddon Park in Hamilton from November 29 to December 3.
