He had donned many roles --  on & off the pitch - from swinging the red ball to opening the innings for Team India, from shaking a leg in a dance reality show in TV to honing acting skills on celluloid - Irfan Pathan is the man for all seasons. In an exclusive interview to Republic TV, Irfan Pathan talked about his new acting role in a Tamil movie and how he was open & ready for Bollywood offers. "People will be pleasantly surprised when they will see me speaking Tamil and act as an Interpol officer. It is different, its a challenge and I am enjoying it," Irfan said.

'It was really good experience'

Disclosing more about the movie & his role, former India all-rounder said: "It's a Tamil movie. The director's name is Ajay. I am doing an important role alongside Vikram, a very well known Tamil actor. When they came for me, I had asked why me... I had never acted in a movie, my job is to play cricket and they said that the director is very keen and you are perfect for the role. When I heard the story I agreed. I took some time & decided. I have finished the first week of shooting as well recently and it was really good experience. I paid a lot of attention to Tamil as it is a language where you need to give a lot of attention."

Irfan Pathan on learning Tamil

Talking about how difficult it was to learn Tamil he said, "I was in Chennai when I was 15-year old at the MRF Pace Foundation, so I know the gist of Tamil. I know the language well, how you speak the Tamil language. If you speak, I can get the gist of the conversation. I have an acting coach now who is helping me now. They are making things easier with me without compromising the work on it."

'Let's see what happens in the future'

Irfan said he was open to Bollywood. "It was my first project. Let's see what happens in the future, I don't know. Things might just get in. No offer from Bollywood as yet but as of now, I am concentrating on the first movie. I am talking to some of my Bollywood friends who are very keen for me to take up this. They are confident that I will be able to do it. I have spoken to Suniel Shetty, he is a dear friend and he is very happy & keen and he said you don't have to worry about doing South film or regional movie as nowadays everything is on the same platform. But at the end of the day, I am a sportsman and I will always be connected with cricket."
