West Indies coach Floyd Reifer has said that the batting performance by his team was 'disappointing', as they were reduced to 87/7 against India on Day Two of the Second Test match. The Indian bowlers never allowed the West Indies batsmen to settle down, particularly Jasprit Bumrah, who finished the day by taking six wickets while conceding only 16 runs. Earlier, in the day, from the Indian side, Hanuma Vihari scored his maiden ton to take the team into a commanding position against the hosts. Ishant Sharma also provided the much-needed support to Vihari as he scored a half-century.

“Our batting was disappointing again as we did not leave a lot of balls early in the innings. When the ball is moving, you have to play the ball as late as possible. We have to work on our batting,” Reifer said. Bumrah did the major damage in the ninth over as he claimed a hat-trick and became the third Indian bowler to collect a test hat-trick after Harbhajan Singh and Irfan Pathan.

India resumed its innings on Day Two with the worst possible start as Rishabh Pant, who scored 27 runs, got out on the first ball of the day. Ravindra Jadeja then came in and scored 16 runs, playing 69 deliveries, trying to give stability to the side, alongside Vihari. But, he lost his patience and gave away his wicket to a debutant, Rahkeem Cornwall. The team did not lose any more wickets and ended the first session with the score of 336/7.

A strong all-round performance by the Indian team

In the second session of Day Two, Hanuma Vihari scored 111 runs and stitched a partnership of 112 runs with Ishant Sharma, who scored the first half-century of his international career. The Indian team was bowled out for 416 runs with the West Indies Captain Jason Holder who was the best bowler for his side. Holder picked five wickets in the innings and also took his career tally to 100 wickets in Test matches. The Indian bowlers, especially Bumrah, made sure that the West Indies innings never took off as they ended the day on  87/7. The Indian team is in a strong position and will hope to perform in the same manner when they take the field on Day 3.

First Test at Antigua

In the First Test, India defeated the West Indies by a huge margin of 318 runs. Ajinkya Rahane was the player of the match as he scored a match-winning century in the second innings and was also the top scorer in the first innings. Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah took 14 wickets between themselves and Ravindra Jadeja contributed by scoring a half-century and taking two wickets in the match. India has 60 Test Championship points and will look to get another 60 points by defeating the West Indies in this match.
