As per Army sources, MS Dhoni’s request to train with the Indian Army has been approved by General Bipin Rawat. He would train with the Parachute Regiment battalion. Some part of the training is also expected to take place in J&K. Army won't allow Dhoni to be part of any active Op. The former skipper had earlier revealed that he will not be available for selection for upcoming India's tour of West Indies.

'Captain Cool' Dhoni is a Lt Col of the Indian Territorial Army.  According to a top BCCI official, the 2011 World Cup-winning skipper has made himself unavailable for the West Indies tour as he will be spending two months with his paramilitary regiment.

Dhoni's love for the military had also become a big talking point in the beginning stages of the World Cup after he was spotted sporting the 'Balidaan Badge' Army insignia during the stumping of Andile Phehlukwayo in India's opener against South Africa. The regimental dagger is the insignia of the Indian Para Special Forces with whom Dhoni has also undergone a brief period of training. During the course of his training in Agra, Dhoni is believed to have done five parachute jumps during the training period.

The last time Mahi was seen was during India's semi-final loss against New Zealand in the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. He had scored a 72-ball 50 and shared a 116-run seventh wicket along with Ravindra Jadeja after the Men In Blue were tottering at 92/6.

Just when it looked like they would register a famous win for India, Jadeja lost his wicket. But, all hopes were not lost until Dhoni was there in the middle. It seemed that he had unleashed his power-hitting abilities in the penultimate over bowled by Lockie Ferguson when he struck a maximum. However, a sharp throw from Martin Guptill hit the bull's eye and replays showed that Dhoni was short of his crease. His dismissal ended India's hopes and while he walked back to the pavilion with a crestfallen face, it seemed that it was the last time MSD would be seen in Indian colours.
