India were handed a major blow during their group stage match against Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup 2018, when star all-rounder Hardik Panyda was stretchered off the field after a suspected cramp.
The incident took place in the 16th over of the first innings. Pandya, bowling his fourth over, fell down after completing the final delivery of the over. At first, it seemed like a slip, but moments later, the player lied on the pitch in pain.
Under the close attention of his teammates, Pandya withered in pain, and a stretcher was called for him. He was taken off the field, with major concerns about his involvement in the match, as well as the tournament.
Soon after the unfortunate injury, users on Twitter prayed for his quick recovery.
The BCCI, through their Twitter handle, gave an update regarding Pandya's situation.
Prior to this incident, Pakistan were 60 for 2, with Babar Azam and Shoaib Malik at the crease. Earlier in the day, having lost the toss, India made the best possible start, with the new-ball bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah rocking the Pakistani batsmen. Bhuvi especially reaped rewards of some good line and length, removing the two openers within the first five overs.
First to go was Imam-ul-Haq, who tried to take the attack to the opposition, but could only edge the ball to MS Dhoni. And two overs later. his opening partner and Champions Trophy 2017 final hero, Fakhar Zaman followed him back to the pavilion, getting caught by Yuzvendra Chahal while attempting a pull.
Though, Babar, Pakistan's star batsman, and Malik settled the proceedings for their team, playing some sensible cricket. Despite not getting runs at a quick pace, and getting beaten by the odd ball, the two batsmen negated the threat of the Indian pacers, and took their team forward.
Slowly but steadily, the two were getting in their groove, and were aided by a rare drop by Dhoni. In the final ball of the 16th over, Malik tried to divert a ball of Pandya to third man, but only managed to get a faint edge. But luckily for him, Dhoni's one-handed attempt saw the ball bouncing off his glove.
