'Great signs for Indian Cricket,' says Sehwag congratulating Ganguly

Former opener Virendra Sehwag took to Twitter and congratulated his former captain Sourav Ganguly who will soon assume the position of the President of BCCI

Former Indian opener and ace batsmen Virendra Sehwag took to Twitter and congratulated his former captain Sourav Ganguly who will soon assume the position of the President of the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) in India. During his playing days, Ganguly, who is nicknamed as 'Dada', was arguably the finest captains in the history of Indian cricket having scored 11,363 runs in 311 One-Day internationals at an average of 41.02 and nearly helping India win the 2003 World Cup. Sehwag's career reached great heights under the captaincy of Ganguly and he mentioned this news to be a 'Great signs for Indian Cricket.'


Saurav filed his nomination for the post on Monday and will be elected unanimously for the position. After filing his nomination, Sourav Ganguly said that his priority is to look at the first-class cricket in the country. Ganguly though has time only till July 2020 when his term ends due to mandatory cooling-off period according to the new rules set down by the Supreme Court. As per the rules, an administrator can only serve for six years in a row. Ganguly has been holding various positions in the CAB for the last five years.

Amit Shah's son to be new Secretary of BCCI

Jay Shah who is the son of Union Minister Amit Shah will be the new Secretary of the BCCI. Arun Dhumal, younger brother of MoS finance and former BCCI president Anurag Thakur will be appointed the new treasurer. Sourav Ganguly will now become the second captain after Maharajkumar of Vizianagaram to become a full-time BCCI President. Notably, former Indian Captains Sunil Gavaskar and Shivlal Yadav acted as BCCI President on an interim basis in 2014.
