Harbhajan Singh asks India coach Ravi Shastri to wake up

India's head coach Ravi Shastri would have been proud by the display of his team on the first day of the first Test against England at Birmingham. The visitors were struggling at one point of time, but managed to restrict the hosts to 285 for 9 at the close. There were numerous headlining moments during the day, which included Ravichandran Ashwin dismissing Alastair Cook, Joe Root getting run out and Virat Kohli's celebration.

But all of these were overshadowed by something that happened in the dressing room and commentary box. During the day's play, Ravi Shastri was caught napping on television by the audience. Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, who does commentary in Hindi, also saw the visuals. Following that, Bhajji commented, "Ravi Shastri having a nap there. Wake up, Ravi," which drew laughter amongst the other commentators. 
 

India will be in dreamland following the end of Day One of the first Test against England at Birmingham. The visitors lost the toss, and were made to bowl first in conditions good for batting. At one point, the hosts were comfortably placed at 215 for 3, with skipper Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow looking in fine nick. All seemed to go right for England, before Kohli and co. bounced back.

When the day came to a close, India had managed to restrict England to 285 for 9. It all began with the run-out of Root, which brought forward a major collapse. Soon, wickets started to tumble, and the hosts stared at yet another failure with the bat in the Test format. There was everything on the first day, including some brilliant strokeplay, outstanding bowling and excellent fielding. 

The star for India with the ball was Ravichandran Ashwin, who took four wickets. He was duly supported by the fast bowlers, who took five wickets amongst them. 

During the course of the day, Root also achieved a personal landmark. He became the quickest batsman to 6,000 Test runs in terms of time, surpassing Alastair Cook's mark of five years and 339 days. The England skipper took five years and 231 days of his Test career, to reach the landmark.
