Harsha Bhogle says Virat Kohli should have been cut off when Team India coach question was asked; controversy grows

Indian commentator and analyst Harsha Bhogle threw his weight behind Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who was severely criticized for backing Ravi Shastri to continue as head coach for the national side, and said that he was not specifically addressing Virat in his  previous tweet where he agreed with former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra's sarcastic jibe at key influencers suggesting their preferences while the selection process for the head coach was still on.

Harsha Bhogle clarifies: 'Not directed at Virat Kohli' 

The Indian commentator said that he wasn't pointing hands at skipper Virat Kohli but suggested that someone could have intervened to tell him that he should have avoided the question as applications for the position of head coach were still open. He said that someone should have told the captain that it wasn't right to answer the question while the quest was still on.

The Indian commentator said that it wasn't a good idea for 'key influencers' to state their preferences while applications for the post of the head coach were still open. Bhogle joined former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra's in expressing disappointment over the Indian team skipper and a CAC member stating that they want Ravi Shastri to be given another chance as the head coach, while applications for the post was still open.

Aakash Chopra's sarcastic 'good luck'

Former Indian cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra took a dig at the selection of the head coach as he took to Twitter to express his views. The regional commentator said that the skipper had voiced his preference. Similarly, he said that a Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) member had also made his preference for Shastri to continue as India's head coach. He took a dig at all those had applied for the post of the head coach and wished them luck if they thought they would stand a chance. 

Dates for the selection process

The interviews of applicants for India's head coach are likely to take place on August 13 and/or August 14. The deadline for filing the applications for the head coach and support staff is July 30.
