'He built the foundation that I stand on', Sachin Tendulkar pays a heartwarming tribute to coach Ramakant Achrekar

Veteran Indian cricket coach Ramakant Achrekar passed away at the age of 87 on Wednesday, December 2  at his residence in Shivaji Park, Dadar, Mumbai. Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar paid tribute to his mentor following his demise.

Veteran Indian cricket coach Ramakant Vithal Achrekar passed away at the age of 87 on Wednesday, December 2  at his residence in Shivaji Park, Dadar, Mumbai. The eminent coach has who is known to have trained several legendary cricketers most notably Sachin Tendulkar, have been honoured with Dronacharya Award for his services in 1990. He has also served as the selector for Mumbai cricket team. Several celebrities across different platforms have lamented the death of the legendary soul. Cricket personalities including Mohammad Kaif and VVS Laxman among others have extended condolence to the family of the legendary soul.

Cricket star Sachin Tendulkar also lamented the death of his mentor. Recalling Achrekar's contribution in shaping his career, Tendulkar said, "Cricket in heaven will be enriched with the presence of Achrekar sir. Like many of his students, I learnt my ABCD of cricket under Sir’s guidance. His contribution to my life cannot be captured in words. He built the foundation that I stand on."

The news of the sudden demise of the Cricket legend was announced by Board of Control for Cricket in India. They took to Twitter and confirmed the news saying, "The BCCI expresses its deepest sympathy on the passing of Dronacharya award-winning guru Shri Ramakant Achrekar. Not only did he produce great cricketers, but also trained them to be fine human beings. His contribution to Indian Cricket has been immense."

The state Cricket body also confirmed the news and paid tribute to the departed soul. Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) took to Twitter and said, "Ramakant Achrekar Sir passes away. Deepest Condolences to the family from Mumbai Cricket Association."

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif also paid tribute to Achrekar and thanked him for shaping the Indian cricket by serving as a mentor to 'master blaster' Sachin Tendulkar. Sharing a picture of Achrekar and Sachin on Twitter, Kaif wrote, "Condolences to his family and loved ones on the passing away of #RamakantAchrekar sir, who shaped and gave us a gift called Sachin Tendulkar !"
