ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers 2019: Tournament progress so far

The ICC WT20 Qualifiers started on October 18 and the tournament is progressing quickly as leaders PNG and Oman begin to stand out. Read further for details

The UAE is currently playing host to the ICC World T20 Qualifiers. The top six teams in this tournament will be part of the ICC T20 World Cup which starts on October 18, 2020, in Australia. The tournament began on October 18 and will go on till November 2. Let us take a look at the progress, so far

ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier: Papua New Guinea and Oman lead the lot

In Group A, Papua New Guinea are the leaders with four points along with the Netherlands and Singapore being second and third. In Group B, Oman are the current leaders along with Canada and Jersey following closely. Papua New Guinea's Tony Ura is currently the third-highest run-getter in the tournament with the 104 runs he has scored. Oman's highest run-scorer is Aqib Ilyas with the 82 runs he has scored in two innings. Canada's Nitish Kumar has had the highest score in the tournament so far with his innings of 83 against Jersey. He also has the highest strike rate in the tournament (230.56). There have been no hundreds registered in the tournament while Ireland's Paul Sterling has scored two fifties in the two matches he has played. Jersey's Jonty Jenner has hit the most sixes as he has hit six sixes so far. Nitish Kumar has also hit the same amount of maximums.

Paul van Meekeren of the Netherlands is the joint-highest wicket-taker along with Namibia's Jan Frylinck. Both of them have six wickets, so far. UAE's Rohan Mustafa bowled the tournament's best bowling spell till now against Ireland where he ended up with 4/18 at an economy of 4.50. Papua New Guinea's Norman Vanua has the best economy of the tournament - 3.50. The 15th match of the tournament will begin at 3:40 PM IST today as the United Arab Emirates take on Hong Kong. Ireland vs Oman, Kenya vs Bermuda, and Canada vs Nigeria will also be contested today.
