Indian pacer  Umesh Yadav who recently claimed a 10-wicket haul against West Indies in the second Test, has been rewarded with a place in the Indian squad for the first two ODIs against the Caribbean side.

His way was paved by Shardul Thakur who has been ruled out after sustaining a right adductor tendon injury, during the second Test. The debut didn't go as planned for the 27-year-old as he limped off the field after bowling his 10th delivery.

However, an opportunity missed is another opportunity earned. On the basis of recent performances, Umesh Yadav has earned his call-up to the Indian ODI squad after claiming the Man of the Match award for his 10-fer in the second Test against West Indies.

After his poor showing on the tour of England and a subsequent snub from India's Asia Cup squad, a return comes at the right time for Umesh Yadav. The right-arm fast bowler will be hoping to redeem himself with the tour of Australia just around the corner.

This means, Umesh Yadav's inclusion shuts down the doors on Siddarth Kaul, who was called in the place of an injured player during the 2018 Asia Cup. His exclusion, however, raises some eyebrows after the medium pace bowler recently starred for Punjab in the Vijay Hazare trophy with a five-wicket haul.

Umesh Yadav will be complemented by Mohammed Shami and Khaleel Ahmed to share the pace duties in the absence of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah who have been given a rest keeping in mind the hectic tour of Australia in December. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin are expected to lead the spin bowling attack.

While the rest of the team remains unchanged, many might argue with the Indian selectors' decision to not tinker with the team composition, and wether it would be the ideal preparation for the upcoming series down under. However, it remains to see how the team performs in two ODIs against West Indies which will be played in Vishakhapatnam and Guwahati respectively.

Here's the updated 12-member squad:

Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma (vice-captain), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Ambati Rayudu, Manish Pandey, MS Dhoni (wicket-keeper), Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Khaleel Ahmed, Umesh Yadav
