India got off to a great start on the opening day of the first Test against Bangladesh at Indore on Thursday. Earlier today, Bangladesh skipper Mominul Haque won the toss and decided to bat first. The move backfired as the top-order struggled their way to 31-3 within the first hour of the day. The struggle continued after lunch as the visitors kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. Apart from skipper Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim, no other batsmen got going during the course of their innings. After a solid 68-run partnership between the two batsmen, Bangladesh ended the afternoon session at 140-7.

At 140-7, it took India just another 4.1 overs to dismiss the visitors. Wrecker-in-chief Mohammed Shami finished his spell with figures of 3-27 in 13 overs. The fast bowlers picked up seven wickets between them while Ashwin picked up 2-43 in 16 overs.

Left with 26 overs to face in the day, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal came out to the middle. Sharma, who has been in sublime form throughout the home season, could not replicate his success as he was dismissed for just 6 runs after he edged the ball to keeper Liton Das off the bowling of Bangladesh pacer Abu Jayed. His dismissal brought in Cheteshwar Pujara to the crease, who joined forces with Agarwal to see out the day. The two batsmen safely negotiated the remaining overs while punishing bad deliveries at every chance. At stumps, Agarwal was unbeaten at 37 while Pujara is batting at 43. Team India end Day 1 at 86-1 after 26 overs, trailing the visitors by 64 runs.
