India completed a 3-0 whitewash of South Africa with yet another comprehensive innings and 202 runs in the third and final Test in Ranchi on Tuesday. South Africa were all out for 133 in their second innings as the final two wickets taken by Shahbaz Nadeem.

This was the third instance of South Africa getting whitewashed since re-admission in a series of 3-plus Tests. Let us have a look at the three instances of South Africa getting whitewashed in Test cricket.

2001-2002 Australia vs South Africa - Test Series:

Australia won the first Test by a massive 246 runs with Shane Warne ripping the Proteas batting with 8 wickets. The second Test was won by Austalia with 9 wickets to spare. Matthew Hayden shone with the bat as he scored a brilliant century (138). Hayden & Langer continued their dominance in the third Test as well as they both scored centuries to guide Australia to 554.

Australia enforced a follow-on on South Arica after bowling them out for 154. Gary Kirsten was the lone fighter for South Africa in the second innings with his gritty 153 as Proteas crumbled once again to 452 setting a target of 53 to the Aussies. Australia chased it down with 10 wickets in hand and completed a memorable whitewash. Hayden was adjudged as the 'Player of the Series'.

2005-2006 South Africa vs Australia:

It was again Australia who whitewashed South Africa as the demons of the 2001-02 Test series returned to haunt the Proteas. But this time the Proteas lost in their own backyard. Australia won the first Test by 7 wickets with Stuart Clark being the predator in chief with 9 wickets. In the second Test in Durban, Shane Warne saw his team home by grabbing 8 wickets in the match which ensured a 112-run win for the Aussies. The third Test was a rather close encounter. Proteas had gained a lead in the first innings and set a target of 292 for the Aussies which they managed to chase with just 2 wickets to spare and completed another clean sweep against the Proteas. Stuart Clark was named the 'Player of the Series'.

2019 India vs South Africa:

India was on a roll at home and South Africa had a daunting task ahead of them to beat India at home. India won the first Test by 203 runs riding on the back of twin centuries by newly promoted opener Rohit Sharma. In the second Test, skipper Virat Kohli led from the front and score an unbeaten 253 before Indian bowlers ripped apart the South African batting twice to guide the hosts to a victory by an innings and 137 runs. South Africa's performance in the series kept on deteriorating as they lost the third test by an innings and 202 runs. Sharma scored a double century and was adjudged as 'Man of the Match' and 'Player of the Series" as well.
