Riding on captain Kohli’s unbeaten 72 runs off 52 balls, Team India successfully chased down South Africa’s 149-5 to take an unassailable 1-0 lead in the 3-match T20I series. The Proteas are currently in India for a grueling tour of limited-overs matches and three Tests. After the opening match of the tour ended in a washout in Dharamshala, the series was then reduced to a two-match affair between the two nations. The focus will now shift to M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru for the series decider.

Playing XI for India vs South Africa third T20I:

Indian team:

With a comprehensive win in Mohali, the Indian team will likely make a few changes in the playing XI from the one they fielded in the previous game in order to test their bench strength. As per the latest statement made by national selector MSK Prasad, the team management is also looking to groom some young talents who can be possible backup options for wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. Also, after Washington Sundar’s wicket-less spell in the second match, captain Kohli and coach Ravi Shashtri might give a chance to young leg-spinner Rahul Chahar. With the T20 World Cup all set to be held in Australia next year, the Indian team management will be seeing these matches as a perfect platform to give talented young cricketers an opportunity in the playing XI.

South African team:

After a disappointing outing in the recently concluded World Cup, the South African team will be keen to make an impact on their first post-World Cup tour. However, with a defeat in the opening game, the struggling Proteas will also be looking to make some changes in their playing XI. Their hard-hitting batsman David Miller’s form has been a concern for a while. Also, his 18 runs off 15 balls in the last few overs did not help the team’s cause either. Fast bowling all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo might make the cut into the XI after missing out on the previous game.

The remainder of the tour:

The upcoming contest also makes it a must-win match for the visitors to ensure that the T20I series ends in a draw. The T20I series will be followed by the ‘Freedom Trophy’ Test matches between the two cricketing giants. The Test series will also launch South Africa’s campaign in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship. The third and final T20I will be held this Sunday on September 22.
