Ind vs SA: South Africa go into lunch at 136 with 6 down on Day 3 of the second test which is being played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association in Pune.

At the start of the play on Day 3 of the second India vs South Africa Test played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, the visitors resumed their first innings at 36 for 3. T de Bruyn and nightwatchman Nortje were at the crease. South Africa have been given a daunting task of avoiding the follow-on. After just adding 5 runs to the team's overnight tally, Nortje edged a Mohammad Shami delivery which was caught by the skipper Virat Kohli. His wicket was followed by that of de Bruyn, who nicked one to wicketkeeper, who took an exceptional catch off pacer Umesh Yadav's bowling.

de Kock joined South African captain Faf du Plessis at the crease and both started building the innings. Both of them started off positively and got a partnership going. They attacked the Indian bowlers scoring some boundaries with the Proteas skipper bringing up his fifty. The duo put on a 75-run partnership before de Kock was bowled by a beautiful ball from Ashwin just at the stroke of lunch. Couple of overs before lunch, Senuran Muthusamy was dropped by Kohli at short mid-wicket off Ravindra Jadeja's bowling. He South Africa went into lunch at 136 for 6, still trailing India's first innings score by 465 runs.

The story of the match so far

Earlier on Day 1, Indian captain Virat Kohli had won the toss and elected to bat first. India managed to score a massive total of 601 for the loss of 5 wickets before Kohli decided to declare. The Indian skipper himself led the innings with a record-breaking seventh double hundred and ended up unbeaten on 254, whereas Jadeja scored a quick 91. Mayank Agarwal had paved the way for this huge total with another century on Day 1. Cheteshwar Pujara & Ajinkya Rahane also managed to provide valuable contributions.

South Africa was asked to bat late on Day 2 after they were on the field for 156.3 overs. The visitors had a mammoth task of surviving till Stumps but they could not. The Indian bowlers were right on the money as they sent both the openers back in quick succession. Shami was introduced into the attack and he struck immediately, getting rid of Temba Bavuma. South Africa ended the day at 36 for 3.
