Team India will face South Africa in the first Test match to kick off their home season in the ICC World Test Championship. The match will be played on October 2, 2019, in Visakhapatnam. Under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, the hosts who are also the number one ranked team in the test format, will be looking to dominate and win the series. Team India will be coming to the Test series after defeating West Indies by winning all the three series (T20I, ODI and Test series). They would be eager to face the young South African team and continue their winning streak.

Ind vs SA: Team India Test performance

In 2016, ‘The Grand Home Season’ began for India, the series was played at home against New Zealand, England, Bangladesh and Australia. India defeated New Zealand and regained its title of number one ranking in Test cricket. Under the captaincy of new captain Virat Kohli, India defeated England 4-0. They went on to claim victory against Bangladesh and Australia. By defeating these teams, India also reclaimed the Border Gavaskar Trophy. In the process, India also became the third team to win the most Test series against all the other Test-playing nations.

After facing a big loss in 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, India went on to beat the West Indies 3–1 in a five-match ODI series in the Caribbean in July 2017. They then visited Sri Lanka and defeated the home team 3-0 in a three-match Test series. The next year saw mixed results for the Men in Blue as they started the year by losing against South Africa and England. However, they won against Australia. It was also the first time the team defeated the Kangaroos in Australia. India then defeated West Indies at home. After coming from an ODI win against South Africa, India won a tri-series against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. They again won at home against West Indies. Now they will face the young South African squad in Visakhapatnam.
