Ind vs SA: Three batsmen with most double hundreds in Test cricket

On Day 2 of the second Test match against South Africa in Pune, Virat Kohli became the first Indian to score a record seven double hundreds when he hit an unbeatable 253 to record his highest Test score. He now stands fourth on the list of players with the most double centuries. He has the opportunity to enter this glorious list as India has a long Test season ahead.

Three players to have scored the most number of double centuries in Test cricket:

3) Brian Charles Lara: 9 double hundreds

The legendary batsman from West Indies scored 9 double hundreds in his illustrious Test career and stands third on this list. In fact, the world had already realised the potential of this player when he converted his first century into a double century against Australia in 1993. He scored three double tons against Australia, two against England, two against Sri Lanka, one each against Pakistan and South Africa. He also holds the record of the highest Test score (400*) which he recorded against England in the year 2004.

2) Kumar Sangakkara: 11 double hundreds

Second on the list is Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara who hit 11 double tons in his glorious Test career. He scored three double tons against Pakistan, three against, Bangladesh, two against South Africa and one each Zimbabwe, India and New Zealand. His highest score of 319 came against Bangladesh in Chittagong. The legendary cricketer retired from the game with one of the most decorated careers of all time.

1) Sir Donald Bradman: 12 double hundreds

Often regarded as the best batsman of all time, Sir Donald Bradman tops this coveted list with a tally of 12 double tons to his name. He achieved this feat in just 52 Test matches. The veteran scored a whopping eight double tons against arch-rivals England, two against South Africa, one each against India and West Indies. His final double ton came against India and this proved to be his final double century. The legendary batsman ended his career with an impeccable average of 99.94.
