The Indian cricket team continued their winning form in the ongoing Test series against South Africa by registering a comfortable innings and 137 runs victory in the second Test in Pune. With it, India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. With a lead of 326 runs at their disposal in the first innings, the big question was whether Indian captain Virat Kohli would enforce the follow-on against the Proteas. Surprisingly, Kohli did eventually enforce it to give the Indian bowlers yet another shot to bowl out the visitors and secure a win early in the Test match.

Ind vs SA: Umesh Yadav speaks on why India enforced the follow-on

Speaking about team’s strategy in the post-match press conference, Indian fast bowler Umesh Yadav said that it was the bowlers themselves who convinced Kohli to take the decision during the quick innings break after dismissing South Africa for 275 in the first innings. Yadav claimed that none of the Indian bowlers felt the need to rest. Normally, captains in the modern era would have let the game stretch to the final day and bat their way to victory. However, the Indians had the intent to win rather than the stretch the game, according to the pacer.

Yadav was called up to the side following an injury to star pacer Jasprit Bumrah. The 31-year-old did not disappoint the skipper as he finished with match figures of 6-59. The pacer also travelled to the West Indies for the Test series there but was not selected for a single international game on the tour. He says that he is ready to play whenever he is required to and that he gains ideal match practice in the India 'A' team for example when he isn't selected to play for India. Yadav is set to be a part of the Indian team that will take on South Africa in the final Test of the series in Ranchi.
