Independence Day: Gautam Gambhir says 'Whether I remain or not, my country must'

India is celebrating its 73rd Independence Day on Thursday. It is a day where not only one develops a patriotic feeling towards the country but also remembers the sacrifices which were made by many of our great leaders to fulfill India's dream of becoming an independent nation. On this day, the citizens of this country stand united and come forward to pay their respects to the motherland. 

On the occasion of Independence Day, Gautam Gambhir has also come forward to convey his wishes.

Former Indian cricketer and current Delhi MP Gautam Gambhir took to social media and wrote 'Even after getting drenched with my blood, this soil must remain. Whether I live or not, my country should remain. On 73rd Independence Day, I wish our country progress and peace. Happy Independence Day to all of you! Jai Hind.

The ex-opening batsman had hung up his boots from all forms of cricket at the end of 2018. In his 15-year illustrious cricketing career, the southpaw had represented India in 58 Tests, 147 One Day Internationals and 37 T20I's. He had played match-winning knocks in two of India's world title triumphs ( ICC World T20 2007 & ICC Cricket World Cup 2011). Apart from these triumphs, the Delhi batsman was also a part of the Indian squad which had registered famous wins like the Australian tri-series in 2007/08, clinching the number one spot in Test rankings in 2009 and winning the 50-overs Asia Cup the following year. The swashbuckling left-hander is also one of IPL's most successful skippers having led Kolkata Knight Riders to two titles in 2012 & 2014 respectively. 

Gambhir is also a successful commentator as well as a successful analyst of the game. While he is still associated with cricket even after retirement, the 37-year-old attained success in politics as he serves as a Member of Parliament (MP) in East Delhi representing the BJP.
