Independence Day: Suresh Raina, Jwala Gutta and Irfan Pathan wish citizens

India is celebrating its 73rd Independence Day on Thursday. It was on this day in 1947 that India finally won freedom from British rule after a long wait of over 150 years. On this day, all the citizens of India came forward to not only celebrate this historic day but also to remember the great leaders who had sacrificed their lives to make this a reality.

India is celebrating its 73rd Independence Day on Thursday. It was on this day in 1947 that India finally won freedom from British rule after a long wait of over 150 years. On this day, all the citizens of India came forward to not only celebrate this historic day but also to remember the great leaders who had sacrificed their lives to make this a reality. While the wishes have come pouring in from all corners and as people from all parts of the country unite to celebrate this occasion, even the sporting fraternity is coming forward to wish the fellow Indians. 

Sporting fraternity conveys special wishes on the occasion of Independence Day

These are the personalities who have won laurels for the country and have also made it proud on so many occasions. The sporting greats including the likes of Suresh Raina, Irfan Pathan, and Jwala Gutta came forward to convey their wishes to the citizens of India.

Suresh Raina took to social media and wrote that today and every day, let us all take a moment to remember the heroes who have laid down their lives for India and its people. The 2011 World Cup-winner then added that he was proud to be a part of this nation.

Raina's former Indian team-mate Irfan Pathan wrote that a country is known for its history & by its people. The veteran all-rounder then urged everyone to build the country by love regardless of a different faith. The cricketer-turned-commentator then added that a solid India should be built where when a traveler comes to our land he/she goes back with the most beautiful memories one can ever have.

Badminton sensation Jwala Gutta took to Twitter and wrote that 'May we always have the freedom to choose, freedom to dream, freedom to live and freedom to play any sport'.
