India batsman Shubman Gill picked Brazil's Neymar and South Africa's AB de Villiers as his favorite sportsperson outside cricket and best non-Indian cricketer respectively.

"Yeah, many. I like Neymar Jr a lot," said Gill when asked if he has a favourite sportsperson outside cricket. When asked to choose the best non-Indian cricketer with whom he has played with or against, the 20-year-old replied: "AB de Villiers."

Not too long ago did Shubman Gill etched his name into the record books when he led India C to the Deodhar Trophy final. Gill became the youngest known captain to lead a side in the Deodhar Trophy final. He broke current India Skipper Virat Kohli’s 10-year old record, who had led North Zone to the Deodhar Trophy final in the 2009-10 season at the age of 21. India Skipper Virat Kohli led North Zone in the 2009-10 Deodhar Trophy Final against West Zone.

The right-handed batsman stressed that trying to focus on things one can control helped him stay cool mentally while preparing for international cricket.

"You can do that only by keeping those things aside that you cannot control. And try to focus on things that you can control," he said.

Shubhman made his ODI debut for India against New Zealand early this year and has stated that it was the biggest experience for him as sharing the dressing room with seniors has helped him learn and lot about the game. Since his ODI debut, the youngster has led India A against South Africa A, and also India C in the recently concluded Deodhar Trophy.

The century also helped him register his highest List A score of the career, surpassing the 124 runs he scored last year.

Gill along with Team India Test opener Mayank Agarwal (120 of 111) shared a 226-run stand for the first wicket. Gill smashed half a dozen sixes besides 10 fours. Suryakumar Yadav produced some fireworks (72 not out off 29) towards the backend of the innings to propel the team to 366 for 3 in 50 overs.
