It seems like there's nothing going in England’s way. The hosts of the 2019 World Cup started strong, entering the World Cup as the number one team on the ICC rankings, but all good things come to an end. After facing back-to-back defeats from Sri Lanka and Australia, England smudged the track record of not losing back to back matches at home in a while.

To add on to the disappointment, as per the latest ICC rankings updated on 25 June, the same day England bite to dust after losing against the old rivals, Australia at lords; England slipped to the number two spot on the ICC rankings and lost their reign as the number one team in the ODIs. Their ratings dropped to 122 from 124, making India the number one team with 123 ratings.

The team that entered the World Cup as hot favourites, now find themselves in a position where they have to win both their games to enter the semi-finals. Interestingly, England will lock horns with the new number one team, India, in their next.

New Zealand retained their number three position with 116 ratings. South Africa, however, slumped to the fifth position with 109 ratings after the disappointing World Cup campaign, winning just one game out of their seven. Australia, who were the first team to seal a semi-final berth in the World Cup, climbed the ICC ratings from fifth to the fourth position with 112 ratings.

Pakistan stay at number six even after an increment in ratings (93 to 94). Bangladesh after a decent performance at the ongoing World Cup climbed to the seventh spot with 92 ratings (up from 85).

Sri Lanka and West Indies with 78 and 77 ratings are eighth and ninth respectively. Afghanistan, who equaled the record of losing seven matches on the trot, remained at number ten though they lost two points (62 to 60).
