India will begin their bilateral series against West Indies as both teams lock horns against each other in the first of the three-match T20I at Lauderhill, Florida on Saturday.  Apart from the T20I series, the Men In Blue will also be playing three One Day Internationals and two Tests. The three-match Test series will be a part of the inaugural ICC World Test Championship (2019-2021). The biggest news is that of Shikhar Dhawan's come back from injury.

The Men In Blue will be looking to start fresh after their heart-breaking ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 semi-final exit last month where skipper Virat Kohli will be eyeing to rebuild a new side for the ICC World T20 in 2020 and 2021 respectively and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

As Team India start their new journey post the quadrennial event with a T20I series, let us take a look at both India and West Indies' records when they have met each other in the shortest format of the game.

Head-to-head-records

India have a great record in international T20 cricket having won 70 of the 115 matches. Out of the 11 T20I's that the Men In Blue and the Men In Maroon have played, both teams have won five matches apiece.

Meanwhile, India won the inaugural edition of the ICC World T20 in 2007 while the reigning T20 world champions are the only team to have won it on two occasions. They were crowned champions in 2012 and 2016 respectively under Darren Sammy's captaincy.

At the same time, the Calypso Boys had suffered a 3-0 whitewash when they had visited India last year.

The build-up

Both Manish Pandey and Shreyas Iyer, who were part of the recently-concluded A series in the Caribbean, come into the senior team with runs under their belt. Spin all-rounder Washington Sundar and pacers Khaleel Ahmed and Deepak Chahar are also back in the T20 squad while speedster Navdeep Saini and Deepak's brother Rahul are in line to make their India debut. With Rohit Sharma and a fit-again, Shikhar Dhawan set to open, the number four spot seems likely to be occupied by K L Rahul, who has fond memories of the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium, having scored an unbeaten 110 in his last innings here almost three years ago.

India will be expected to beat the West Indies though they are most dangerous in the shortest format. The explosive Kieron Pollard and spinner Sunil Narine are back in the side though Chris Gayle will only be seen in the ODIs.The injured Andre Russell has been ruled out after he failed to recover from a knee injury. He has been replaced by Jason Mohammed in the West Indies’ 14-man squad.

Weather

Well, this is what will determine whether the contest will happen or not. But, the news is not a good one. It is expected that there will be a thunderstorm with a huge chance of rain according to Accuweather, Florida on Saturday. The MET department has predicted that the cloud cover will be 95 percent throughout the morning.

The squads:

West Indies: John Campbell, Evin Lewis, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicolas Pooran, Kieron Pollard, Rovman Powell, Carlos Brathwaite (c), Keemo Paul, Sunil Narine, Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas, Anthony Bramble, Jason Mohammed, Khary Pierre.

India: Virat Kohli (captain), Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Rishabh Pant, Krunal Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Rahul Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, Deepak Chahar, Navdeep Saini.

Match starts 8 PM IST.
