IPL 2019: Michael Vaughan roasts 'Delhi Daredevils', oops, Delhi Capitals after batting collapse against KXIP

Delhi Capitals' (DC) batting collapsed like a pack of cards in the latter part of their innings as they succumbed to a 14-run defeat to Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in Mohali on Monday.

Despite having restricted the hosts to a meager 166 for 9 in 20 overs, the visitors failed to chase down target, even though they just needed 30 runs from the final four overs, with seven wickets in hand.

Their batting failure was reminiscent of the past editions, when they used to be in winning positions, only to lose. While the outfit from Delhi changed their name from Delhi Daredevils to Delhi Capitals, the fortunes remained the same.

One man who felt very much like this was former England skipper Michael Vaughan. Taking to Twitter, the Englishman mocked DC's batting efforts by saying that he was witnessing the return of Delhi Daredevils.

Sam Curran was star of the match for KXIP as they reigned supreme over DC despite being on the backfoot for much of the fixture. The Englishman first showed his prowess with the bat after he was surprisingly sent out to open the innings. He showed no sign of anxiety and tonked the ball across the park on his way to a 10-ball 20. 

Following his knock, the likes of Sarfaraz Khan, David Miller and Mandeep Singh played cameos to help the home team post a respectable 166 for 9 on the board.

In reply, DC were on course to chase the target in comfortable fashion for most part of their innings. Each of Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Colin Ingram were amongst the runs as the visitors required a mere 23 from the final 3 overs.

But up stepped Curran in the 18th over, as he conceded just four runs, but more importantly, got rid of Ingram and Harshal Patel in the space of four deliveries.

And if that wasn't enough, the 20-year-old, defending 15 in the last over, dismissed Kagiso Rabada and Sandeep Lamichhane in the first two deliveries to not only get himself a hat-trick, but also a win for his side.
